How to Protect Your Tamagotchi from Scratches and Drops
If you're a Tamagotchi owner, you probably know the feeling.
You put your Tamagotchi in your bag, pocket, or backpack, and suddenly discover a tiny scratch on the screen. For collectors, even small scratches can be frustrating, especially on devices that are becoming harder to replace.
After more than 10 years of collecting virtual pets, I've learned that a little protection goes a long way.
Here are some simple ways to keep your Tamagotchi safe and looking its best.
1. Use a Protective Case or Cover
The easiest way to protect your Tamagotchi is by using a protective cover.
A cover helps reduce scratches, protects against minor drops, and keeps the shell looking nice over time.
In fact, this was exactly how my crochet journey began.
Back in 2016, I picked up Tamagotchi again. Wanting to protect my own device, I learned crochet and made a simple cover for it.
I never imagined that one little cover would eventually lead to more than 1000 handmade Tamagotchi covers being created over the next nine years.
2. Keep It Away from Keys and Coins
Many scratches happen when a Tamagotchi is carried together with hard objects such as:
-
Keys
-
Coins
-
USB drives
-
Metal accessories
Whenever possible, keep your Tamagotchi in a separate pouch or compartment.
Your future self will thank you.
3. Consider a Screen Protector
Screen protectors can help reduce scratches on the display.
Some collectors use screen protectors originally designed for smart watches or cut them to fit their devices.
Even a small layer of protection can make a big difference over time.
4. Use a Storage Pouch When Traveling
If you bring multiple virtual pets with you, a storage pouch can help prevent them from knocking into each other.
This is especially useful for collectors who enjoy carrying several devices during conventions, meetups, or travel.
5. Be Careful When Displaying Your Collection
Displaying your collection is fun, but make sure your Tamagotchis are placed somewhere stable.
Avoid:
-
Direct sunlight
-
High humidity
-
Areas where they can easily fall
Long-term exposure to sunlight may also cause some shells to discolor over time.
Why Protecting Your Tamagotchi Matters
For many people, a Tamagotchi is more than just a toy.
It's a piece of childhood nostalgia, a collectible, and sometimes even a daily companion.
A little care can help your device stay in great condition for many years.
Whether you're raising your first virtual pet or adding another device to a growing collection, protecting it from scratches and drops is always worth the effort.
After all, my own journey started with one Tamagotchi that I simply wanted to keep safe.
And somehow, that small decision changed my life.
Happy raising!
